Alex Edwin Saxon Sr.

Sylvania, GA – Alex Edwin Saxon, Sr., age 91, passed away Friday, May 25, 2018, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro, GA. He was born in Screven County, GA to the late Frank Brown & Lillian Chance Saxon. He was an U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, retired from working as a farmer and dairyman and then retired from working as the Road Superintendent for Screven County. He also was a member of the GA Peace Officers Assoc., a member of McDonald Baptist Church, liked doing yard work, but most of all, loved being with his family. He was preceded in death by his Parents; Wife: Lucille Gainey Saxon; Brothers: Cecil Saxon and James Saxon; Sisters: Mintoria S. McBride, Gladys S. Pate and Neda S. Looper.

Survivors: Daughters and Son-In-Law: Kimberly S. & Randy Oglesby of Millen, GA, Jill S. Becton and Nora Gail Saxon, both of Sylvania; Son: Alex Edwin “Bud” Saxon, Jr. of Sylvania; Sisters and Brother-In-Law: Frankie S. Adams of Savannah, Myra S. Herrington of Waynesboro and Jean S. & Lanier Davenport of Athens, GA; Brother and Sister-In-Law: Carroll & Mary Ann Saxon of Perkins, GA; Brother-In-Law & Sister-In-Law: Bill & Wilma Gainey of Millen, GA; Sister-In-Law & Brother-In-Law: Nora & J.D. Henry of Metter, GA; 9 Grandchildren; 5 Great-Grandchildren; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation: Monday, May 28, 2018 at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.

Funeral Service: Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at 11:00 A.M. at McDonald Baptist Church with Rev. Butch Taylor and Rev. Mike Peedin officiating. Burial following at Millen Cemetery. He will lie in state at the church from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM.

Pallbearers: Tyler Becton, Randy Oglesby, Jr., Evan Oglesby, Garrett Oglesby, Russ Sheppard, Phillip Ayers, Wesley Aaron and Buddy Saxon. Honorary Pallbearers: Phil Hunt, Jerry Hogan, Roger Saxon, Ricky Saxon, James Ellis Saxon, Johnny Herrington, Dwayne Herrington, Jerry Williams, Randy Woods, Bart Gainey, Brett Gainey and Thomas Hill.
