Laura Mobley Roberts passed away Thursday, January 5, 2012, after her battle with cancer. Known to many as Laura Ann, She was born and raised in Sylvania, Georgia. Laura is predeceased by her parents: Fred Lee Mobley, Jr. and Elise Brant Mobley both of Sylvania, Georgia. Laura has resided for many years in Nassau, Bahamas.
Laura's friends and family have always known her as an artist. She studied Art at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, Georgia; painted many landscape paintings, was passionate about interior decorating, and appreciated both architecture and tropical gardens.
Laura created many works of art during her lifetime in both oil and watercolors; often given as special gifts. These paintings will be treasured by all of us as a memory of Laura's talents. Her greatest testaments to her talents are the grounds and buildings of Lacethorpe; the residence she shared with her husband, Jim, and several miniature schnauzers.
Laura is survived by her husband of twenty-five years, James Roberts of Nassau, Bahamas, her sister, Mary M. Horton of Beaufort, South Carolina, her three sons: Jay Pelham and his wife Catherine of Coral Gables, Florida, Shuler Pelham and his wife Meredith of Nashville, Tennessee, and Christian Pelham of Nassau, Bahamas, her brother, Lee Andrew Mobley and his wife Julie of Statesboro, Georgia, and her sister Eleanor Gladding and her husband Rusty of Tucson, Arizona, four grandchildren (children of Shuler and Meredith: Andrew, Laura Elise, John, and Mark; two nieces, (daughter of Mary) Liza Bethel Nash and her husband Jeff, and (daughter of Lee and Julie) Maddison, and her grand-niece, (daughter of Liza and Jeff) Mary Jac.
Funeral services will be held at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel in Sylvania, at 2:00 P.M., Sunday, January 15, 2012, with a visitation preceding the service at 1:00 P.M. Rev. Ralph Dixon officiating and burial at Screven County Memorial Cemetery. A Memorial service will also be held in Nassau, Bahamas, at a later date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Humane Society.
Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home of Sylvania, Georgia is in charge of arrangements.
