

Sylvania– Paul Keller “P.K.” Newton, age 86, passed away on Monday, November 19, 2012, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. He was born in Screven County in the Halcyondale Community, was a retired farmer and a member of Union Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Screven County Shrine Club, the 32nd Degree Scottish Rite, Royal Order of the Jesters, a Mason, member of the Sylvania Rotary Club and former Rotary Club Citizen of the Year. He was a veteran of WWII, serving in the U.S. Navy. Mr. Newton also served as a Board Member of the American Soybean Assn., was a Georgia Soybean Assn. Organizer, Member of Georgia Farm Bureau, served as Screven County Commissioner for 10 years, was a former president of the Georgia Crop Improvement Assn., was Soil Conservation Man of the Year, was a former Board Member for Planters Electric Membership Corp., graduated in 1950 with a B.S. Degree from University of Georgia with a Major in Agronomy and a Minor in Forestry. He was preceded in death by his Parents: Frederick Braswell, Sr. & Catherine Elizabeth Keller Newton; Brothers: Fred B. Newton, Jr.; Sister: Catherine Newton Pfeiffer.
Survivors: Sons and Daughter-In-Law: Paul Keller, Jr. & Mary Ann Newton of Statesboro and Allen Shuler Newton of Sylvania; Sister-In-Law: Doris Brown Newton of Sylvania; Caregivers: Eva Fulcher and Florrie Pierce; Several Nieces and Nephews.
Visitation: Tuesday, November 20, 2012 at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.
Funeral Services: Wednesday, November 21, 2012, at 2:00 P.M. at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Mann officiating. Burial at Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Halcyondale Community.
Pallbearers: Rick Newton, Michael Newton, Allen Daley, Matthew Pfeiffer, Eric Forehand, Mike Daley, Lee Andrew Mobley and Koelker Pfeiffer. Honorary Pallbearers: Sidney Jenkins, Earl Dabbs, Donald Sheppard, Bill Lord, Augustine Bunce and Nathaniel Roberts.
