Winona Jean Jones Woods

Sylvania – Winona Jean Jones Woods, age 52, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2015, at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility in Statesboro. She was born in Jesup, GA, to Winton E. Jones and the late Jean Yeomans Jones. She graduated from Georgia Southern with a Bachelor of Science and Education Specialist in Early Childhood Education and a Masters of Education in Early Childhood Education from Valdosta State. She was a teacher at Springfield Elementary School in Effingham County for 3 years and also taught at Screven County Elementary School for over 20 years, teaching 2nd and 3rd grades. She was a two time teacher of the year, once in Effingham County and once in Screven County. She also was a member of Middle Ground Baptist Church. She was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, sister, teacher and friend. Most of all, she loved her Savior, Jesus Christ. She was a true inspiration to everyone who knew her.

Survivors: Husband: Ernie Woods of Sylvania; Daughter: Rebekah Woods of Sylvania; Sons and Daughter-In-Law: Samuel & Colleen Woods, Eli Woods and James Woods, all of Sylvania; Grandson: Emmett Woods; Father: Winton Earnest Jones of Jesup, GA; Sister: Devin Johnson of Brunswick, GA; Brothers: Raymond Jones of Albuquerque, NM and Jerry Jones of Jesup, GA; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Visitation: Thursday, July 30, 2015 at 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home.

Funeral Services: Friday, July 31, 2015 at 4:00 PM at the Thompson-Strickland-Waters Funeral Home Chapel with Samuel Woods, Rev. Tom Alderman and Rev. Pete Wall officiating. Burial following at Middle Ground Baptist Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers: Billy Pollock, Allen Kieffer, Jerry Jones, Chris Pye, Tommy Griffin and Randy Sapp; Honorary Pallbearers: Past and Present Teachers and Faculty of Screven County Elementary School and Caregivers.
