George R. Haas

NY and passed away peacefully on January 19, 2022, at 95 years

old. He is survived by his wife Joan of 71 years, daughters Barbara

Haas-Givler (David) and Kathy Haas. Never a day went by that

he didn’t miss his only son George who passed away at a young

age. He is survived by his grandchildren David George Givler II and

Katherine Haas Givler. He enjoyed attending their performances,

and sporting events. At age 17 he joined the Navy during WWII

with an honorable discharge in 1946. He worked as a typesetter

for the New York Times until he launched a career in real estate.

George was renowned for his hard work which resulted in a sig-

nificant career in Long Island real estate history. A consistent top producer,

George knew houses, listings, and inventory better than

perhaps anyone else in Syosset and the surrounding communities.

His trustworthiness and reputation have truly been a hallmark for

the industry and the community. George represented generations

of families while continuing to sell houses into his 90’s. He is

the recipient of many awards including the Lifetime Achievement

Award from Douglas Elliman. George enjoyed reading,

investing in the stock market, and crossword puzzles.

George, former president of the Syosset/Woodbury Rotary Club,

exemplified the Rotarian motto, “service above self.”

He participated in community projects, made lifelong friends, and

was recognized for 48 Years of Service and was the recipient of

the Paul Harris award.George was a devout Catholic who served

as an usher for 47 years at St. Edward’s Church.

George will be sorely missed by his family, friends, and anyone

lucky enough to cross paths with him during their lifetime.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 AM on February 2, 2022, at St.

Edward’s, Syosset, NY.
