I still miss Derrick.  I think about him all the time.  What a great guy he was.

On September 9, 2012 in Negril Jamaica, we joined hands in prayer and placed white roses in the water.  We miss your smiles and loving heart Derrick.

It has been a year and I am sorry it has taken me so long. You will always be remembered, you touched many lives with your kind and loving spirit. I miss you and I love you, just as Christ as loved us, you are my brother. To be absent from the body means to be present with the Lord, I know you are walking with Him. so sorry to hear the news...derrick and i worked togather at nec in syracuse..always a big smile for everyone..

I went to College with Derrick, and I remember him as a happy and awesome person who was loved by all he met.  My prayers are with his family at this time of profound loss.

What we are feeling upon hearing od Derrick's death is hard to put in words. All i can say right now is Derrick was the greatest friend anyone could ask for. We will miss him dearly.

Derrick was a year older than me at Ithaca College. I remember him as extremely kind and gentle. He had a great laugh and beautiful smile. RIP.  My deepest condolences to his family.

I only knew Derrick for nine months, but he had become a really good friend and someone I loved talking to.  It's a tremendous loss for those of us who knew him, and I'm just so grateful that I got to know him before he passed away.  He will be dearly missed by all of us at NEC.

Derrick was a very good fiend that i will miss very much. He was the only person I've ever met that always had a bigger smile than I. His sense of fairness was huge and a willigness to always put others before himself. He will always be remembered by his friends here in Texas. So long my friend.

I lived in the same apartment complex with Derrick and played racquetball with him atleast three times a week. He was a great racquetball player but a better person and friend! I just found out today and I am in Atlanta, Georgia. I am very sorry I wasn't aware of his death to attend his funeral! I was devastated to hear the news!    John Vukelich

Very sad day when I heard the news about Derrick. I enjoyed the time that I worked with Derrick, as he always brought a smile to my face. He always took the time to help me with any issue that I had, no matter how busy he was at the time. I will miss Derrick very much as a friend and a coworker.

Know that you raised an AWESOME son!  He was a most kind, friendly, and helpful soul.
I take comfort in knowing that Derrick lived life to the fullest!  Always making the best of any given situation and having fun with everyday.  With that big smile and comforting words, he frequently was a beacon of light in a sometimes dreary workday.  He really got us excited with his “Lotto Ticket” runs…and don’t dare think you would ever beat him in a round of bowling!!!

It was a great pleasure to work with Derrick for many years while he was in Syracuse and then we met in person when we both ended up in Irving.  I moved earlier this year to WA, but on every trip back to TX I would see him and that great smile. Derrick was the kindest person and always there for everyone.  His contagious smile and warm heart will be what everyone remembers. To his family, thank you for sharing this wonderful man with all of us in TX.  My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
