

After a short illness, H. Barton Koonce, a life-long resident of Taft, Texas, passed away Wednesday, January 9, 2013. He was 79. Barton retired after thirty-eight years of service with Marathon Oil Company. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Taft, his entire life. He is preceded in death by his wife, Barbara Rees Koonce; his father and mother, Buck and Edna Koonce. Barton leaves behind a legacy; his two daughters, Kim Floerke of Taft and Melanie West of Spring Branch, Texas, along with their husbands, Dr. Neal Floerke and Dale West. Barton’s pride and joy were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His legacy is in the good hands of Jason (Tish) Floerke of Portland, Texas; Amy (Dave) Isaacs of Austin, Texas; Brook Havard of Denton, Texas, and Brian West of Spring Branch. His great grandchildren are Riley and Hunter Floerke of Portland and Kendall Isaacs of Austin. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013, at 3:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Taft.
