Clifford Eugene Hobbs was born on August 31st, 1927 in Avant, OK the son of Roy Lester and Laura Belle (Walden) Hobbs. He grew up and attended school in Salina, OK area. He married the love of his life, Bessie Lee McDaniel on November 2nd, 1945. This union was blessed with five children, Donnie, Gerald, Johnny, Denna, and Rickey. Clifford was a carpenter. He joined the Tulsa Carpenters Union and helped to build some of the landmark buildings we recognize today as the Tulsa County Courthouse, Sun-Ray Oil Building, Standard Lab building, and Doctor’s Hospital in Tulsa. His love and knowledge of livestock and implements were unsurpassed. In 1956, he moved his family to Tahlequah and established the Hobbs Dairy. Clifford was a jack-of-all –trades. He had the ability to restore vintage buggies and wagons to their original condition. He raised horses and mules. One of his wagons was used in the movie production of “Where the Red Fern Grows” while being filmed in the area. In 1964, the family relocated to Oologah, and it was here that Cliff purchased a bulldozer, started his own construction company, and assisted in building the Oologah Lake. He made his living from carpentry and dairy farming, until he retired from farming altogether. It was not uncommon to see Clifford’s wagon rolling down the road packed to the brim with grandchildren on their way to a Christmas Parade. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren dearly and was so proud of their accomplishments. He enjoyed spending time sharing a meal and a laugh with those he loved most. A Baptist by faith, he was a member of the Welling General Baptist Church with his wife, Bessie. After he retired from farming, Cliff was just content to watch a good western movie, listen to gospel music and be around those he loved, to share their day . The Lord called Cliff home from his labors on August 20th, 2012 in Tahlequah, OK. He was 84 years old. He is already being missed by his many family and loved ones.
Cliff is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Bessie Lee in 2005, four brothers, Robert Hobbs, Bill Hobbs, Raymond Hobbs, and Elton Hobbs as well as one sister, Thelma Morrison.
