Coy J. Young was born on August 19, 1933 in Eli, Oklahoma the son of John Coy and Maggie Marie (Watkins) Young. He attended Hulbert school. In 1954, Coy enlisted in the U.S. Army and honorably served his country until his discharge in 1956. He returned to the Tahlequah area and on June 5th, 1957, he married the love of his life, Maggie Rose Smith in Wagoner, OK. Together, they raised six children. Coy, or Uncle “June” as he was known to his friends, worked as an electrician for Clyde’s Electric. When he wasn’t busy working, he enjoyed time spent out of doors either fishing or coon hunting. He was a gifted gardener and raised the most wonderful vegetables and flowers. There was nothing better than traveling to see the sights. The best day, however, was any day spent in the company of his wife, children, grandchildren and family. Coy was quiet and easy going. His family remembers Coy being loving and kind, generous with his time. A Baptist by faith, Coy was a member of the Old Country Baptist Church. He arrived at church with candy in his pockets to share with his friends. The Lord called Coy home from his labors on Saturday, April 30th, 2011 in the Veterans Hospital in Muskogee with his family at his side. Coy was 77 years old. He will be greatly missed by his many friends.
Coy is preceded in death by his parents, three of his children, Margaret Carey, Roseola Thornburg, and Arthur Lee Smith. He is also preceded by four brothers, Bob, Bill, Charles L., and Howard Lawson and three sisters, Iris Purget, Wanda Nicholas, and Inez Foster.

Coy’s legacy lives on in his fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, two very special grandsons, Robert Smith and wife Tonya of Tahlequah, OK, and Ronnie Smith and wife Jennifer of Cookson, OK as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
