

Funeral services for Darren Elton Kihega will be held on Thursday, June 9th, 2016 at 10:00 am at Illinois River Baptist Church on Highway 10 with Wayne Forrest “Booly” officiating. His wake service will be held on Wednesday, June 8th, 2016 beginning at 5:30 pm at the Chewey Community Building on Highway 10. Interment will be held at the Sands Cemetery in Chewey, OK.
Pallbearers for Darren include Darrell Kihega, Kendall Kihega, Rock Kihega, Dennis Lamb Jr., David Sands, and Cody Caughman. Honorary Pallbearers are Caleb Teehee and Michael Kihega.
Darren Elton Kihega was born on July 3rd, 1970 in Jay, OK, the son of Carroll Elton Kihega and Nancy Gail (Sands) Kihega. A graduate of Claremore High School, Darren attended Haskell Indians University and Oklahoma State University. A welder by trade, he dedicated his life towards his family. His love for his son, Skylar Kihega, was held as his pride and joy. His quick wit and humor and the ability to make anyone feel at home is remembered most. Darren loved the small things in life, these things meant the most to him. He loved watching Skylar play football and he would go every Friday night dressed in his blue Sequoyah Eagle attire. He loved home cooking, he loved family getting together to share a meal and became a very good fry bread maker. He loved country music and could spend a day driving in his truck listening to it. As a younger man, Darren loved to challenge himself in bull riding and being an amazing runner of cross country and track. He would still be found running and he loved being outdoors. A Christian by faith, Darren was a Baptist, and was devoted to prayer and was always found with a bible close to him. Darren went to his Eternal Home on Friday, June 3rd, 2016. Darren was 46 years old. He will be missed by his family for his devotion, his laughter and smile and his desire to see everyone do their best. His words of encouragement are very well remembered by all he met.
Darren is preceded in death by his parents and brother, Randy Kihega.
Those left to honor his memory include his son, Skylar Kihega and wife Megan of Claremore, OK. He leaves two sisters and two brothers, Lisa Kihega-Grant and husband James of Ponca City, OK, Andrea Kihega-Bond and husband Mike of Enid, OK, Darrell Kihega and wife Jamie of Red Rock, OK and Kendall Kihega and wife Christine of Claremore, OK. His love for one nephew and nieces are Jennifer Teehee, Lauren Lamb, Dennis Lamb Jr., Sierra Kihega and Shelby Kihega. He also leaves loved uncles, aunts, many cousins, and special friends which he thought of everyday.
