
Ecil Margarett Kight was born January 30, 1947, and passed from this life on March 30, 2026, in Mason City, Iowa while surrounded by her family. Ecil was born in Anadarko, Oklahoma to Betsy Lee Woods-Newsom and William Thomas Alton Newsom of Mountain View, Oklahoma. She graduated from Mountain View Highschool and shortly thereafter married the love of her life, Chester Kight with whom she had four children.
Ecil was a military wife who traveled extensively while her husband, Chester, was in the military. Ecil moved to Tahlequah with her family when Chester retired from the military in 1980. Ecil was an amazing cook and enjoyed sewing and working in her garden and flower beds, but her pride and joy was raising her children as a stay-at-home mom and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ecil was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Lela Roddy, and brother, Alvin Newsom.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Chester Allen Kight; their daughter Margaret Cook and husband Ron Cook, son, Robert Kight, daughter, Dawn Borel, and son, Darin Kight and wife Elle Kight; their grandchildren, Matthew Cook and wife DeeAnna Cook, Jonathan Cook, AshLee Thompson and husband Kaleb Thompson, Joshua Cook, Kanyon Kight, Korbin Kight, Austen Kight, Iris Borel and Opal Borel; her great-grandchildren, Eden Cook, Avery Cook, Randi Cook and Zoie Cook; her great-great-grandson Oscar, her brother Odie Ray Woods, and numerous nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends.
Ecil will be greatly missed and always remembered for her endless patience, kindness, generosity, warm smile and amazing hugs.
