Jennie was born in New Albany Indiana to Sarah (Boutelle) Barbey and Roy Barbey. She was a direct descendent of William Rawson (the First Secretary of the Massachusetts Bay Colony). A girl of the 50s and 60s, she loved cruise nights, due largely in part to the cars, music, and friends of that era. She graduated from New Albany High, and left shortly thereafter to begin her life's adventure. This would include marriage, having children, and the pursuit of a lifelong dream of nursing.
It was during this time that she worked with a variety of nonprofits centered around assisting people with medical, financial, emotional, and social needs through various tasks. Her work remained fulfilling, and because of this, she continued to participate in it in some form throughout the duration of her life.
Later, she focused her attention on pet rescue. She mobilized her knowledge and resources in any way she could to give a second chance to pets in need. Her goal during this era of life was to eliminate all undue hardship placed on what she called, “her fur friends.” Jennie believed pet rescue to be her calling in life and considered her rescues and fellow rescuers to be equal members of her family.
Jennie also enjoyed television since its earliest inception. The programming she most liked was Topper, The Mickey Mouse Club, Howdy Dooty, The Price is Right (Barker Era), Big Brother, anything of supernatural content, and the Breaking Bad franchises.
Jennie’s other passions in life included: passing time at Tahlequah City Parks, and the Jeffersonville, Indiana Riverfront, attending local live music venues, cheering on her beloved New Albany Bulldogs, listening to the enchanting sounds of the Northern Bobwhite bird and watching Hindi films in her spare time (her favorites being: Padman, and Laal Singh Chaddha, a Forrest Gump remake).
Although having lived in many locations throughout the country, Jennie was most proud of her connection to Tahlequah, and its Cherokee history. She loved the people of this area and felt right at home in their presence as both neighbors and family.
In her final days, Jennie viewed her life as having been the most wonder filled adventure, and would like to thank all who helped make it so (with special notation given to her grandchildren and great grandchildren).
