Joe Marvin Whitehead was born in Tahlequah, Oklahoma on June 16, 1948, the son of William Whitehead and Lillie Mae (Fish) Smith, along with stepfather, Harold Smith. After graduating high school, he went to service in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After returning home, he started work in various professions. He helped at his parent security company in St. Louis and then operating a used car dealership with his brother Raymond. He also performed as a cameraman for Green Country Cinema for some time. No matter what he was doing in his off time, he always had his best friend and brother, Raymond by his side. Aside from having a profession together, they would often go to drag races or car auctions. Raymond’s unfortunate passing in 2018 left a void for Joe that could never be filled. He confided in his companion of many years, Linda Rose Wiley Whitehead Johnson and cherished his relationship with his daughter, Amanda. He was a Christian by faith and member of the Assembly of God Church of Tulsa. Joe’s health began to fail and on February 1, 2025, he was called to his eternal rest. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Joe Bud and Eliza Marie (Crow) Fish, parents, William Whitehead and Lillie Mae (Fish) Smith, stepfather, Harold Smith, sister, Billie Sue, daughter, Amanda Jo Reed, his brother, Joe Raymond Coffee, his wife, Jan, and one granddaughter, friend, Kellie Kirkpatrick and beloved dog, Honey.
He is survived by his companion, Linda Rose Wiley Whitehead Johnson of Frankfort, Kentucky, his beloved dog, Socks, friends, Pat Johnson, Fran McGee Higley, Arnold McGee, Stacy and Larry Matlock and staff at Uhaul, as well as many other hometown friends.
Graveside services for Joe will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 10:00am. He will be laid to rest to join his family at Hendricks Cemetery.
