John Raymond Scavezze was born on October 7th, 1948 in Pittsburgh, Kansas, the son of Arthur Charles and Cora Christine (Keller) Scavezze. John was raised with two brothers, Art and Bill and one sister, Betty. After completing school, John married the love of his life, Phyllis Nadine Yaeger on June 7th, 1969 in Pittsburg, Kansas. Together, they shared over 54 years of love, friendship, memories and were truly the best of friends, always by each other’s side. They were blessed with three children, Aaron, Bill and Cathy. John enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country until honorably discharged in 1975. John had a servant’s heart and practiced his faith by putting the needs of others far above his own. He was blessed with the ability to assemble and disassemble anything from washer and dryers, cars, plumbing, construction--you name it, John could fix it. This gift he shared with other people as his way of serving those in need. One time, John knew of an individual whose water heater stopped working and they were not able to have it repaired. John took his tools, his time and made it good as new, no cost to the family. John loved people, and it showed. He didn’t need to know you well to tell a tale or two. The more he told his “stories”, the more elaborate they became. He enjoyed spare time with his family, playing card games, and it was probably the only time he ever sat down. His love for his wife, children and grandchildren was equaled by his love for his church family at Hillside Church in Tahlequah. He shared his time, talent and love for the Lord every Sunday, and helped to fulfill needs that were there, to include missionary work in Haiti. He really disliked being put up front in the limelight, but instead chose to serve without acknowledgement. The Lord called this kind, wise and loving man home from his many labors on October 21st, 2022 in Tahlequah, OK, surrounded by those who loved him most, after reaching the age of 74 years. He will be greatly missed.
He is preceded in death by his mother and father, his brother, Art Scavezze, and brother-in-law, Jim Smith.
Those left to cherish his memory include his beloved wife of 54 years, Phyllis Nadine Yaeger-Scavezze of the home in Tahlequah, and his adored children, Aaron Scavezze and wife Lisa of Bixby, Bill Scavezze and wife Megan of Horizon City, TX, and Cathy Hill and husband Brian of Tahlequah, OK. He leaves his brother, Bill Scavezze and wife Linda of Utah, and sister, Betty Moore and husband Mike of Kansas. He also leaves his brother-in-law, Bob Yeager, and two sisters-in-law, Sharon Smith of Eufaula, OK, and Peggy Yeager of Pittsburgh, KS. He lives on in his nine grandchildren, Megan Scavezze, Lauren Scavezze, Alex Kartchner, Kyle Scavezze, Camron Scavezze, Eli Hill, Abby Hill, Ethan Hill, and Hannah Hill, as well as his church family, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
In lieu of flowers the family ask you consider a donation to Destiny Rescue through the Hillside Church, 900 South Campbell Road, Tahlequah, OK, 74464. God Bless You.
