John Wesley Townshend Sr. was born on November 13th, 1944 in Charleston, WV, the son of Mr. John Frederick Bohmfalk and Ercela (Grafetti) Bohmfalk. He grew up in Lawrenceville, New Jersey, with two sisters Charlotte Townshend Bentley and Kathy Townshend Whalen, attended school at Stetson University in Deland, FL. He loved anything to do with financing, the stock market and money management. John served as a Financial Advisor for 65 years of his life, many of them at Palm Beach Capital Corp. He was also a proud member of the National Association of Tax professionals. When he wasn’t delving into individuals’ portfolios, he loved to spend time with his family. He married Kathleen Keebler and together they raised a family of one son, John Wesley Townshend Jr. He loved the ocean and the family had boats in both New York and Florida, where he enjoyed deep sea fishing as well. He also loved to explore the world around him and traveled to Spain, Mexico, and all over the continental USA.
John loved people and he could make a room full of strangers friends in no time. He loved helping people plan for their future, and was fun loving and possessed a wonderful sense of humor. He was very generous with his time, talents and would gladly give you the shirt off his back if you asked. He had lost his beloved wife Kathleen in 2017 and John was truly heartbroken. He spent as much time as possible with his grandchildren, Kyle, Christina, and Ryan, watching them grow and discovering all the world has to offer. A Christian by faith, he was a member of St. Basil Episcopal Church in Tahlequah. For all the plans he had yet to put into place, the Lord called this kind and gentle husband, father, and grandfather home from his many labors on March 6th, 2024 in Tahlequah, OK, surrounded by the family he loved. John was 79 years old and will be greatly missed. To put it the way John would have said it, “It’s time to close up this popsicle stand!”
John is preceded in death by his grandparents, his mother and father, and his wife, Kathleen.
Those left to celebrate Johns life include his son, John Townshend Jr, and Chelsea of Tahlequah, OK and their children, Kyle Townshend, Christina Townshend, and Ryan Van Blaircom all of Tahlequah, OK. He also leaves two sisters, Charlotte Townshend Bentley of Orlando, FL, and Kathy Townshend Whalen of Boston, MA, as well as many cousins and a host of friends and loved ones too numerous to mention.
A Celebration of the Life of John Wesley Townshend Sr. will be held on Wednesday, March 13th, 2024 at 2:00 PM at Reed-Culver Chapel with Reverend Larry Rogers of St. Basils Episcopal Church officiating.
