Leona May Rich-Young was born on May 14th, 1956 in Bakersfield, CA, the daughter of Alfred and Nancy (Ross) Rich. She attended school and then began her career as a loving mother and family woman. She loved to work on native arts and crafts and enjoyed gardening, raising beautiful vegetables and flowers. She loved to go to the lake or creek and spend her spare time fishing or sharing a picnic with the family. Family was the most important part of her life. In 2006, she married the love of her life, Mitchell Young. She was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother to her special babies. She was proud of her Cherokee Heritage and made sure her children and grandchildren appreciated their people and their heritage. She enjoyed life to the fullest, but unfortunately, life was proved to be a very short while. Her spirit took a final flight on July 7th, 2014 in Tulsa, OK with her loved ones by her side. Leona was 58 years old. She will be greatly missed for her sweet smile, the love she shared and all the happiness she brought to those who knew and loved her.
Leona has gone on to meet her family who journeyed before, her mother and father, one brother, Riley Ross, and two baby grand daughters, Kaiely Buchanan and Aaliyah Jeffers. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Mitchell Young of the home, one son, George Acree and wife Teresa of Muskogee, OK, and two adored daughters, Angela Stites and Jennifer Stites both of Tulsa, OK. She leaves two brothers and two sisters, Roy Craine of Muldrow, John Wayne Ross of Texas, Shirley Tang of Arizona and Totsie Valois of California. Her legacy lives on in her six grandchildren, Justin Acree of Sand Springs, Braden Acree of Muskogee, OK, Ahmad Jeffers of Tulsa, Kadence Grant, Kendell Grant both of Tulsa, OK and Karie Acree of Muskogee, OK as well as one great grandson, Darius Hendricks as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
