Lula Mae Deckard

Stilwell, OK- Funeral services for Lula Mae Deckard will be held on Friday, August 10th, 2012 at 10:00 AM at Reed-Culver Funeral Home with Pastor Clayton Sellers officiating. Interment will follow at Barber Cemetery near Cookson, OK . Visitation will be held on Thursday from noon until 8:00 PM at the Reed-Culver Chapel.

Pallbearers include Danny Deckard, Carl Dallis, Manuel Deckard, Johnny Deckard. Frankie Deckard, Edward Deckard, and Tommie Glen Deckard. Honorary pallbearers include her grandsons, Billy Curry, James Spencer, and Luther Dallis, and Travis Pack.

Lula Mae Deckard was born on February 3rd, 1950 in Tahlequah, OK the daughter of William and Sallie Ann (Scott) Sellers. She attended school in the Welling area, and afterwards, she met and married the love of her life, Luther J. Deckard Jr. in Stilwell, OK on August 10th, 1965. Together, they raised two daughters, Julie and Jamie and shared 46 years together. Lula worked as a home health provider for DHS. When she wasn’t working, Lula loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Lula loved to travel . It didn’t matter if it was a ride in the countryside or across the state, she simply loved to ride in the car. Her kids ,grandkids, nieces and nephews will always remember long walks picking up cans followed by a cookout and an afternoon swimming at Barron Fork. She loved to gather everyone together for a pot of beans and a pan of taters, Lula always made sure there was enough for anyone who showed up to eat. Lula was unique, a treasure in herself. She treasured life and never let circumstances stand in her way. She was strong willed and stubborn. If she made up her mind to do something, it was finished! She was loving and generous to a fault, always looking for any excuse to make a picnic lunch for the grandkids. A Christian by faith, Lula was called to her heavenly home on August, 4th, 2012 in Tulsa, OK with her family by her side. She was 62 years old. Lula will be greatly missed for the love she gave and the never-give-up attitude she demonstrated in her everyday life.

Lula is preceded in death by her mother, father, daughter Julie in 1999, one sister, Lillian Meek and one brother, William Sellers.

Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 47 years, Luther Deckard Jr. of Stilwell, and one very special daughter, Jamie Deckard-Jordan of Tahlequah, OK. She leaves one sister, Velma Anderson of Tahlequah, OK, and one brother, Lester Sellers also of Tahlequah, OK. Lula’s legacy lives on in her two grandsons, James Spencer and Billy Curry all of Tahlequah, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends and loved ones.
