Millie Claudean Winlock-Chapman was born in Red Oak, OK, the daughter of Ellis and Alpha (Burns) Winlock. She grew up in a household with one brother, James and one sister, Loretta. She graduated from LeFlore High School. From an early age, Millie acknowledged the importance of a good education, so she studied hard and became a Licensed Practical Nurse. Anyone who knew Millie knew two facts, Millie was a woman of strong Christian belief and one of the hardest working women you would ever meet. Millie never sat down and waited for life to happen, she made it zing! The most important part of her world were her children and grandchildren. She adored them and pushed them hard to make them better every chance she had. In 1980, she met and married Jonas Calvin “JC” Chapman. They both worked at Corning Glass Company. As a young woman, she played softball til she wore her knees out. She loved the game! When her children and grandchildren played sports, Millie was right there, coaching them from the sidelines, cheering them on to be their best. She was their biggest fan. She worked at WW Hastings hospital for years in the dark room of the radiology department. She worked tirelessly, every client in her care was worthy of her respect and the very best of care. She treated everyone the same, it didnt matter who you were, to Millie, you were important! There was a kindness and compassion about Millie, and an equal amount of tough love to go with it! She didn’t know the words “I Can’t!” If she needed plumbing done, she did it. If her alternator went out on her car, she fixed it. Millie depended on no one to get her through, she depended on the Lord and her own determination. When her grandkids were going to school, she worked in the cafeteria as a lunch lady, just to be there to support and love them. Millie was a Christian and a Baptist by faith, attending both Calvary Baptist and Grace Baptist Churches in Tahlequah. The Lord called this good and faithful servant home from her labors on March 14th, 2017 in Tahlequah, OK. She was 83 years old. The community we live in has been a better place for Millie’s presence here.
Millie desired that all her family and friends remember her for the vibrant person she was and never wanted to see those she loved cry. Therefore, Millie has requested no services for her passing.
