Nancy Gail Thompson was born on Monday January 1st, 1940 in Tahlequah, OK, the daughter of Herbert and Maude (Carter) Burk. She was a member of Carter Baptist Church where she played the piano. She graduated from high school in Tahlequah then began her studies at Northeastern State University. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree and began her lifelong career of Office Administrator at NSU. She thoroughly loved her job, the students whose lives she changed and all the faculty and staff she worked with over the years. She met and married her best friend, Joe E. Thompson, and together they raised two sons, Bobby and Stephen. Joe passed away in 1991 and Gail carried on with all of her activities. Over the years she followed her boys in football, baseball and wrestling, she was their biggest fan. She and her best friend Sue Mayberry enjoyed getting together and sharing a pot of coffee whenever possible. She was the most dedicated mother, cousin, friend, and councilor imaginable. She always took the time out of her busy schedule to help any student at NSU, no matter where they were from, to get all the assistance they needed to make it through college. Years later, she still received correspondence from them, stating her importance in seeing them through. She was a home body, she loved her animals and relaxing with a cup of coffee and watching the variety of birds and wildlife that came through her yard was heaven to Gail. She couldn’t wait until her grand and great grandchildren came to visit. They were her pride and joy and always brought out that big smile. She passed from this life on Sunday, April 5th, 2020 in Tahlequah, OK, after reaching the age of 80 years, 3 months and 4 days. She touched so many lives, and all for the good of future generations.
She is preceded in death by her mother, father, and husband Joe.
