

Funeral services for Opal McKee-Murphy will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM at Reed-Culver Chapel with Reverend John Lee officiating. Interment will follow at Park Hill Cemetery. Her visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 from 10:00 AM until 7:00 PM at Reed-Culver. Online condolences for the family may be left at www.reedculver.com.
Pallbearers for Opal include Lewis Montano, Troy Matthews, Scotty Milstead, Bradley Soliman, Santos Rojas, and Jim Waits. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Collier, Morgan Whitmore, Ryan Roach, Charleston Hughes, and Callip Hughes.
Opal McKee-Murphy was born on September 29, 1942 to Billie and Ella Mae McKee in Tahlequah. Opal was raised in Park Hill and has been a life time member of the Tahlequah community. She attended Owen, 51 School and later graduated from Bagley High School. Opal was one of the last family members and owners of Mural Home before becoming an Oklahoma historical site in 1947. She was part of the Cherokee tribe and was proud of her native heritage. Opal was a member of the Tahlequah Round-up Club and spent many years singing and playing guitar for the Horn Brothers Furniture Store in Muskogee. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family. A Christian by faith, Opal was baptized and a life-long member of the Park Hill Baptist Church. Opal passed from this life on Sunday, March 23, 2014 in Tahlequah at the age of 71 years old.
Opal is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Nadine Courtney and one brother; A.C. McKee, both of Park Hill.
Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Ella Bernadine Milstead of Park Hill and three sons, Charles Hughes and wife Patricia, Rodney Haworth and wife Liz, and Randy McKee and wife Vicki, all of Tahlequah. Her legacy lives on in her twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, two nieces, one nephew and a host of friends and loved ones.
