Steven Adam Hummingbird was born on May 20th, 1984 in Tahlequah, OK, the son of Stann and LaRhonda (Duncan) Hummingbird. He attended school at Tahlequah and later, NSU where he was working on his degree in Computer Technology. Steven proudly served his country in the US Army. He was stationed in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom, serving with the QM HHD Supply from November 2005 until October 2006, attaining the rank of Sgt. Steven was awarded the Army Commendation Medal, Global War on Terrorism Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon, among other awards. Upon receiving his Honorable discharge, he returned to the Tahlequah area, where he was happy at home, spending time with his family and his friends. Steven was athletic, he loved sports of any kind, and participated in basketball, tennis, golf, baseball and video games. He was always learning something new. He was fascinated with how the world worked, and had a special interest in protecting the environment. The light of his life was his son, Ruxton. He enjoyed every moment spent in his company and couldn’t wait to teach him all he had learned. Steven was spirited and full of life. He had a smile and sense of humor that made you wonder what he was planning next! He had a heart of gold, and there were no strangers in Steven’s world, just friends he didn’t know well yet. If you were in need of help, Steven was the man to call. A Christian by faith, Steven attended Park Hill Baptist Church, until he was deployed to Iraq. He was proud to say he was one of the “Park Hill Boys”. The boys often traveled on the church bus, fondly known as the “Red Rocket”. He adored his family, and was always picking on his sisters, and brightening his parents day. In spite of all his hopes and dreams, Steven left this world all too soon on February 27th, 2015 in Tulsa, OK. He was 30 years young. He has left a void that will be impossible to fill.
He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Lucille Hummingbird and his grandfather, Jake Hummingbird.
Those left to cherish his memory and his life include his parents, Stann and LaRhonda Hummingbird of the home in Tahlequah, his adored 4 year old son, Ruxton Hummingbird of Tahlequah, OK, and his two sisters, Andria Hummingbird and Stephanie Lander and husband Shawn also of Tahlequah, OK.
