Allen Whittaker died peacefully Wednesday, August 20th with his family at his side. He was a Tallahassee area resident for over 25 years. He graduated class of 1960 from Afton High School in Afton, N.Y., upon graduation he went to work for the State of New York Department of Transportation. Enlisting in the Army in 1962, he served four years before being Honorably Discharged. Allen returned to the Department of Transportation as a civil engineer, actively involved with the construction of Interstate 88 and working on many projects in the Region 9 division. In his later years he became a computer programmer before retiring in 1994. In his retirement years he enjoyed reading (a lifelong hobby), working in his shop and putting his innovative touch on just about everything he owned, as well as traveling the world.
He is predeceased by his father Harry Whittaker and mother Emma Whittaker as well as his stepson Richard Whittaker. He leaves behind his wife Marie Whittaker, son Jason Whittaker, daughter in-law Ellen Whittaker, daughter in-law Marie Whittaker, grandsons, Cody Whittaker and Ryan Whittaker. He was a wonderful man who will be greatly missed.
