

She was born in Atmore, Alabama on Jan. 25, 1939, to James A. Barrineau and Frances Wilkinson Barrineau. As a military dependent, she lived in various stateside locations, and cherished growing up in Japan and Germany. She married a naval aviator in 1961 and was an active military spouse. She was a long-time resident of Pensacola, Florida, before moving to Tallahassee in 2015.
She was a proud Army Brat, Navy Wife, Air Force Mother, and Army Grandmother.
She taught high school history in Pensacola at Woodham High School in the late 1960s and at Escambia High School in the late 1980s.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, retired Navy Capt. Roger Murray, her son, retired Air Force Lt. Col. Steve Murray (Beth) of Tallahassee, Florida, and her brother, retired Army Col. James A. Barrineau (Anna) of Burke, Virginia. She has one grandchild, Army 2nd Lt. Ryan Murray (Kaitlyn) of Sarasota, Florida.
As an Army dependent, she was a graduate of Frankfurt American High School in West Germany in 1957. She attended Pensacola Junior College, where she was editor of the college newspaper and was a weekly on-air talent at WBSR radio. She transferred in her junior year to the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, where she received bachelor’s degrees in both History and Secondary Education in 1961.
She loved to read and listen to jazz, especially Sarah Vaughn. She was also a sports fanatic who loved college football season. The Atlanta Braves knew no finer fan.
She was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Pensacola.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. to Noon on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Boulevard, Pensacola, FL 32504. A service will follow at Harper-Morris from Noon to 12:30 p.m.
A private burial will take place at Barrancas National Cemetery in Pensacola at a later date.
