Born on October 8, 1944, in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, to Catherine and Quintus McLaughlin, Anne was a lifelong resident of Tallahassee who cherished her roots and community. She worked for the State of Florida for 34 years before retiring. After retirement, Anne continued to thrive in her many roles as mother, grandmother, and dear friend.
Anne was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 46 years, Carroll David “Sam” Summerlin. She is survived by her children, Rusty McLaughlin (Darinda) and Danni Atkins (Nathan); her grandchildren, Casey McLaughlin (Katerina), Rebecca Atkins, Elizabeth Atkins (Cole Henderson), and Kayla Smith (Joshua); and her great-granddaughter, Parker Ann Henderson. She was expecting her second great-granddaughter at the end of August.
A devoted Christian, Anne lived her faith through kindness, compassion, and service to others. Anne will be remembered for her unwavering love for her family, her warm and giving nature, and the joy she brought to those around her. She selflessly gave of her time to family members and friends and found joy in sharing her appreciation of music, Broadway, antiques and cooking with her family. Her home was often the central gathering place during holidays and special occasions, and she took pride in celebrating her growing family.
A celebration of Anne’s life will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., with visitation beginning at 1:00 p.m., at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 700 Timberlane Road, followed by interment at Roselawn Cemetery.
The family would also like to give recognition and special thanks to her caregiver and friend, Phyllis Alexander from Right At Home. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Big Bend Hospice.
