Annie was born in Willard, North Carolina April 29, 1917, the second of six children to Payton and Anne Bernita Farrior. She was raised learning the lessons and values of Eastern Carolina farm life and you'd better believe she was one of the finest southern cooks to ever set our tables. After high school, she attended college and graduated from Western Carolina in Cullowhee, North Carolina. She met and married a graduate student from NC State, Robert S. (Sid) Cox two weeks after Pearl Harbor. Pa Cox boasted that after sampling her strawberry shortcake, he immediately sought her hand in marriage.
During the war, Annie followed her husband when possible to his various posts and helped the war effort by packing parachutes. After the war, they returned to Sid's graduate school program at NC State in Raleigh NC and started their family, eventually ending up in Lake Worth, Florida. There they raised their three children and Annie taught first grade at Barton Elementary School for 23 years. Annie and Sid established a second summer home in their beloved mountains of Cashiers, North Carolina, B.k's Nest, where they were able to spend many wonderful times to together. In 1993, Annie and Sid moved
to Tallahassee to be close to their children.
Annie is survived by her three children, Robert S. Cox Jr and wife Mary, Linda C. Ives, David F. Cox and wife JoAnn all of Tallahassee, and seven beloved grandchildren, John Ives Jr., Warren Ives, Robert S Cox III, Gordon Cox, Natalie Cox, Meghan Howell, and Sarah Cox.
Ma Cox, although a wife, mother, and teacher, was also of an independent nature and had a wonderful eye for color, balance, and the practical engineering of everyday objects. She upholstered her furniture and sewed her own clothing. She stitched colorful and flawless hand embroidery. She arranged cut flowers and wild flowers regularly in both homes and was an active member of the Cashiers Garden Club for many years. Although she was Ann or Annie to her friends, Sid always called her B. To the relatives in North Carolina she was Annie B and to the in-laws in Oklahoma she was B Bird. To her children she was Ma Cox and to her grandkids she was MeeMaw.
