

Arthur F. Mainwood, III, Major, USAR, Retired, 67, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away February 20, 2015. Born September 4, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, he was the son of Arthur F. Mainwood, Jr., and Irene McMillan Mainwood, both of whom preceded him in death. He attended Gordon Military College before transferring to the Florida State University and earning undergraduate and Ed.D. degrees in counselor education and educational leadership. His career in counseling, youth services and vocational rehabilitation included positions with the Florida Departments of Education and Juvenile Justice, Wakulla High School, and Goodwill Industries. While serving 26 years in the military, he was an instructor at the Command and General Staff College, Fort Leavenworth, Kansas. The discipline and patriotism he learned as an Eagle Scout and in the military never left him. He had an abiding faith in God's love. Friends and family will attest that he always maintained a positive outlook and considered every day a gift to be lived to the fullest. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Paulette D. Mainwood of Tallahassee; children, Marissa P., Brian A. and Jeffrey P. Mainwood, all of Tallahassee; sister, Mary M. Mowitz (Frank), of Charlotte; two nephews, Justin M. Mowitz (Meredith) of Gainesville and Kyle A. Mowitz of Ft. Lauderdale, and several cousins. He will be greatly missed by Raegan and Gracie, his four-legged companions who brought him a great deal of joy and guarded him constantly for the past nine years. Visitation will be 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Friday, February 27, at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home, 700 Timberlane Road. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 28, at Roselawn Cemetery, 843 Piedmont Drive, in Tallahassee.For those wishing to make a memorial contribution, the family suggests the American Diabeties Association or Disabled American Veterans.
