Barbara King, Aged 83, passed away on October 10, 2025 in Tallahassee after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. She was born in Paragould, Arkansas to Murtis and Lucy Benton and enjoyed sharing memories of the time she spent there with her family. After graduating as Valedictorian of Oak Grove High, she moved to Memphis, Tennessee where she met the love of her life Eugene. Together they had three wonderful children Jeff (Mikki), Roger (Neil) and Jenni (Sundown) and they gave her 5 amazing grandchildren: Aaron, Lindsey (David), Jayda (Ray), David (Kate), and Thayer.
Barbara loved being a stay-at-home mom, but once her children were all old enough she began a career with Leon County Schools. She worked as an office administrator at several local high schools and Deer Lake Middle School and retired as the secretary to the Superintendent of Leon County Schools. Her generous spirit and great listening skills were a positive impact on untold numbers of students and co-workers.
Barbara was loved by all who knew her. Eugene, Jeff, Jenni and Roger were grateful to have spent time with her before her passing. We will all miss her deeply and are thankful she is now with her Lord in heaven.
A special thank you to the caregivers of Your Life Memory Care Center who took great care of Barbara. Also a special thanks to Big Bend Hospice for their support and care.
