Betty Louise Hunter Reecy, 78, passed away Saturday, December 26, 2020, following a spirited battle with cancer. Betty was born August 25, 1942, in Merced, California to Al and Lyda (nee: Cox) Hunter. She grew up in rural Oregon and Washington until she graduated from Silverton High School, Silverton, Oregon in 1960. Following graduation, she moved to Reno, NV and worked as a telephone operator until meeting her future husband, a Navy buddy to her brother Jack, in San Diego, California. Betty married Richard L. Reecy on December 30, 1961, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Brewster, MN. The couple was attended by George and Joyce (nee: Reecy) Nelson, Leo Bohn, Lyle Bohn, and Lois Reecy. Together they had four children: Ken, Steve, Mary and Cindy. The family relocated to Florida from Minnesota in 1975, before settling in Tallahassee, Florida, in 1977. Betty was a talented artist, loved to travel, and had an adventurous spirit…she more than once drove her husband’s stock car in a “powder-puff” race in Duluth, MN. Betty was employed at the Duluth (MN) News Tribune and Monticello (FL) News prior to embarking on a distinguished career in Florida State government in Tallahassee until her retirement in 2006. Betty was preceded in death by her husband Richard, her father, Al Hunter, her mother Lyda Rutschman and her step-father Art Rutschman as well as her brothers, Jack and Alvin Hunter, and the best dog in the world, her “fifth child”, a Katrina rescue dog; Teddy. She is survived by her children, Ken Reecy (and wife Joni), Steve Reecy (and wife Karen), Mary Suhr (and husband Jeff) and Cindy Wilson (and husband Scott); 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and very good friends. Her grandchildren include: Stanton Reecy; Kaylee Reecy; Kimberly Reecy; Kristen Reecy; Erin Suhr; Nathan Suhr; Emily Suhr; Bradley Suhr; Hannah Wilson and Leslie Wilson, and her great-grandchildren Lily and Lindsey. Interment will be Wednesday, December 30, 2020 at Culley's MeadowWood Memorial Park, in Tallahassee, Florida. Blessed be her memory.
