

Blanche Younis (Miss Bunky) Atkinson passed peacefully on April 5, surrounded by family. Bunky was born on February 22, 1929, to Eddie Younis and Effie Deeb Younis in Tallahassee, Florida. Bunky was married to Glenn F. Atkinson who preceded her in death.
Bunky was a registered nurse and worked for the Leon County Health Department and as a private duty nurse with several medical practices. She served as the Director of Civil Defense and Emergency Preparedness for Leon County and won recognition and numerous awards in her role. She retired in 1987, to live full time at her beloved Alligator Point, Florida, where she served as a first responder and part time “Mayor”. She loved to fish and was an artist with a cast net. Bunky was everyone’s favorite Aunt and Titi, and her house was always filled with nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. She was an extraordinary gardener, and people traveled to see her yard filled with orchids, roses, bougainvillea , fruit trees, exotic plants and a variety of lilies. She always had pets and dogs were very special to her.
Survivors include her four daughters and their spouses: Sharon Haire (Eddie), Geri Atkinson- Hazelton (Don), Terese Combs (Tom), Glenda Atkinson (Sue Higgins); one brother, George Younis; grandchildren Ron Walters, Christopher and Vincent (Malinda) Hazelton, Thomas (Rachel) Combs, David (Lauren) Combs, Andrea (Jonathon) LaBeaud; and great grandchildren Jessie and Bentsie Combs, Raylan and Lyndon Combs, and Ramona LaBeaud.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 14, 2022 from 4:30 PM - 6:30 PM at Culley's MeadowWood Funeral Home - 1737 Riggins Road Tallahassee, FL.
