Carla Louise Stich Houston died peacefully in her home on June 23, 2015. She was born March 7, 1951 in Poughkeepsie, NY to parents Henry A. and Beverly T. Stich and into a family that would ultimately have 12 children. Carla was #3. At the age of 3 Carla contracted polio which would leave her physically disabled for the rest of her life. Her physical disabilities did not stop her from living a full life. She never complained about her lot in life and always had a smile on her face. She was fiercely independent and was always sure she could remain that way. All of her siblings made sure to include her in every adventure despite the fact that she took many tumbles out of her wheelchair because they were SURE she could make it. She graduated from Leon High School in 1968. Her attendance at school was facilitated by members of the Key Club who would meet her at class and carry her, in her wheelchair, up and down the stairs between classes. She was always very grateful for this wonderful service. She graduated from FSU where she selected her major primarily based on which buildings were wheelchair accessible. She was a career teacher in Leon County for over 30 years. Her last years of teaching were at the Leon County Detention Center.
Carla is survived by her husband Ed Houston; her mother Beverly T. Stich and her 11 siblings; Andrew Stich (Leslie) of Salem Oregon; Kristin Stich Foerster (Ulrich) of Gainesville, FL; Gregory R Stich (Sharon) of Auburn, AL; Margo Stich Varn (George) of Jacksonville, FL; Philip B Stich (Cathy) of Winchester, TN; Paula Stich Blair (Jeff) of Tallahassee; Thomas M.
