Carolyn Frances Burton Edmisten was born in Charleston, South Carolina on September 18, 1922. Carolyn spent her childhood in Newberry, Florida, growing up with her sister Mary, surrounded by a loving extended family. She graduated from Newberry High School, and then worked briefly at the telephone company in Gainesville, Florida. She took a train/bus to Pensacola, Florida at the age of 20 where she met and married William H. Edmisten, a career Naval officer who served as an aviator in the Pacific, during World War II. He served in the U.S. Navy for 27 years, retired and was employed by IBM, until a second retirement.
They lived an exciting life both during and after the war years, living in California, Hawaii, Florida and Virginia. They enjoyed dancing and traveling together, playing tennis, as well as entertaining friends. Family was always central to their lives, as well as the Episcopal Church.
Together they had three children, Sandra Miller, Pamela McWilliams and William (Bill) Edmisten; five grandchildren, Michele, Laura, Heather, Ashlee and William; and later, five great-grandchildren, Ethan, Lila, Evie, Carolina and Shepherd.
After losing her beloved husband in 1991, she continued to make Mt. Dora, Florida her home where she became an avid bridge player, a masterful gardener and a skillful stock investor (using her rewards for travel with family!) She treasured New Smyrna Beach vacation and she seldom missed all holiday and family events. She was much loved by her family, friends and neighbors. Not a day went by, perhaps not even an hour, when she did not think of her husband. He was truly the love of her life, and vice versa!
Carolyn died peacefully at the age of 95, surrounded by her family in Tallahassee, Florida on October 11, 2017. She will be buried beside her husband on the grounds of St. Edwards Episcopal Church in Mt. Dora on December 2nd, 2017.
