She was born to Pat and Stokes Domengeaux and grew up in Freeport, Florida with her mother and stepfather, R.C. Shelley. Cathy attended Chipola Junior College and graduated from Florida State University with a degree in Elementary Education.
Cathy was a beloved teacher in Leon County for 35 years, 30 of which were at Astoria Park Elementary. She loved teaching and had a special talent for making each child feel valued and appreciated. Cathy was a generous person in thought and deed and had a passion for helping others; she actively attempted to “pay it forward.” She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.
She is survived by her daughter, Toshia Brown (Al); son, James “Jimmy” Harley (Tracie); and five grandchildren: Allison and Garrett Brown, Mackenzie, Brooklynn, and Peyton Harley. Sister, Dora Jean Daniel (Mason); sister-in-law, Ann Schildt; three nephews: Erik Schildt, Eric Johnson, Robert Shelley; and numerous cousins, extended family and many dear friends. Her parents; her loving husband, James “Jim”; and her brother, Clinton Shelley, preceded Cathy in death.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be sent to Second Harvest of the Big Bend, or a charity of your choice.
