

Darrell V. Couch, 90, entered into rest on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at his home in Tallahassee. He was born on September 5, 1928 in Sellersburg, Indiana to Darcie and Lillie Couch. He, along with his five older siblings, grew up in Sellersburg and he graduated from Silver Creek High School.
After high school, Darrell enlisted in the US Marine Corps and proudly served for two years. After his honorable discharge, he used his GI Bill to complete his B.S. Degree in Engineering at Rose Polytechnic Institute in Indiana.
Upon completion of that degree, Darrell decided to dedicate himself to serving our country. He was commissioned as an officer in the Army Air Corp and valiantly served during the Korean War and Vietnam War as a Fighter Pilot. Darrell was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross for his wartime service during Vietnam. He retired after 28 years of honorable military service and having achieved the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
A good education was important to Darrell. During his time spent at Tyndall Air Force Base in Panama City, he obtained a Master’s Degree in Business from Florida State University and a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from Troy University as well as obtained his CPA certification. After retirement from the military, he fulfilled a childhood dream of becoming a teacher. He joined the faculty at Florida State University and taught in the Management Information Systems Department within the School of Business.
Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud to have a wonderful, loving family. He enjoyed spending time with them and was said to be the greatest influence in the lives of his children. They have all followed in his footsteps in their own way. He and his family enjoyed traveling together and Florida State Football.
Having been an Eagle Scout himself, he was a Scout Master for his sons’ Boy’s Scout Troop and enjoyed the opportunity to take them to the World Jamboree in Japan. There he served as Contingent Scout Master. He was a true Tool Man and a lifelong member of the NRA.
Darrell is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Elaine; sons, Jeffrey Couch (Vida), Scott Couch and Darrin Couch (HoJeong); grandchildren, Alex, Corey and Justin as well as his niece, Sandi Spaugh.
He will always be remembered as a man who Loved God, Country and Family and he will be missed by many.
The Couch family will receive friends at 11am on Tuesday, October 2, 2018 at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home – 700 Timberlane Road with the Funeral Service to follow at 12 noon. Interment with Honors will take place at the Tallahassee National Cemetery on Wednesday, October 3, 2018 at 11am- 5015 Apalachee Pkwy.
