

Commander Donald Al Tesch (USN) (Ret.), age 97, of Tallahassee, Florida passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2025. Donald was born on June 20, 1927 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Julius H. Tesch and Evelyn Harrington Tesch.
Donald was a man of many passions and talents. An avid duck hunter and gifted artist, he found inspiration in nature and adventure. His love of travel took him around the world, with African safaris holding a special place in his heart. Raised the son of a mechanic, Donald inherited a deep appreciation for engines and spent countless hours working on race cars, combining skill with enthusiasm. Whether in the quiet of the marsh or the roar of the racetrack, he lived life fully and with great curiosity.
Commander Donald Tesch honorably retired from the United States Navy after a distinguished career. He served his country with valor in three major conflicts: World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. Throughout his military service, Donald earned numerous accolades, reflecting his commitment and courage. Beyond the battlefield, he was equally devoted to helping others. During the Vietnam War, he conceived and led Project Rebuild—a humanitarian effort to construct new housing for 34 dependents of ARVN soldiers who were left homeless after a devastating fire in 1965. This initiative stands as a testament to his compassion and unwavering dedication to service.
Donald is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Janice Jordan; his son, Peter Tesch and wife Kimberly; daughter, Julie Tesch and grandchildren, Miles Tesch and Kara Tesch. Donald’s legacy lives on through his family, who will forever cherish his memory and the love he shared with them.
Commander Tesch, USN (Ret.), will be laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. The date of the service will be announced at a later time.
