The family will receive friends at 12:30 with the service at 1:30 Friday, October 8, 2021, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home on Riggins Road in Tallahassee. Burial will follow at Tallahassee Memory Gardens on North Monroe Street.
Donnie was born March 10, 1929, in Jacksonville, Florida. She met the love of her life (Norman [Smokey]) when he was stationed at Jacksonville Naval Air Station. After they were married, they moved to Tallahassee in 1952.
In Tallahassee they became involved with Westminster Presbyterian Church where she joined a Bible Study group, The Joy Club. These sweet ladies met for over 50 years supporting and loving each other as well as their children.
In 1965 they purchased their dream, a lot on Lake Mystic. Between the two of them they built our beautiful home. We shared so many memories and happy times with family and friends over the last fifty plus years.
After her husband passed away in 2006, Donnie started going to Fellowship Presbyterian Church. There she joined the Stitchers Group. They made everything from hats for the NICU to shawls for the elderly to helping the refuge house.
Donnie loved to travel, read, and knit when she was younger. Since the late 1970’s she has read through the Bible every single year.
Survivors include her brother John Vanderslice, two daughters, Stephanie (Mark) Wehrly, Nancy Metzke, four grandchildren, Analese Peters (Omero Rosas), Alyson (Drake) Anderson, Chase (Dorothy) Wehrly, Coleman (Katie) Wehlry, along with great grandchildren, Leah and Cole Wehrly, Atlee and Saylor Wehrly, Andraya and Chloe Rosas, and sister-in-law Joyce Vanderslice as well as many nieces and nephews.
