She was predeceased by her first husband of 39 years, George Hanselman, and her second husband of 4 years, Merel York. She was also predeceased by her parents, Truman and Dolly Haseltine; her daughter, Susan Rupek; and her sister Lorene Proctor.
Dorothy spent her life as a nurturer. She began her life of nurturing as a child by caring for her brother George and sister Lorene, and then continued as a loving wife to her husband George for 39 years, and thereafter her husband Merel for 4 years.
She spent her life caring for her four children and often attended dance, choir and band recitals as well and a multitude of ball games in which her children were involved. She continued her attendance at these special events with her grandchildren, and encouraged each of them in their personal interests. Dorothy also served as a volunteer "Pink Lady" for 14 years at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital where she served as a patient information specialist, a cuddler of premature babies, and tea cart server for new moms. She also trained many volunteers in her positions.
Dorothy was an avid lover of Jesus and served as a Sunday School teacher for preschoolers at Evangel Assembly of God. Her effectiveness as a teacher was so wonderful that both children and parents would cry as the children became too old for her class. Dorothy also became a caretaker for numerous people who were too ill to care for themselves.
A celebration of her life will be held Saturday, December 22, 2012, at Evangel Assembly of God, Tallahassee, Florida. The family will receive guests from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. with the service immediately following.
