his is the story of a country boy who lived the American Dream. Duce Layfield was born on May 17, 1954 and died on March 16, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Dale Sapp Layfield, as well as his Daughter, Amanda Layfield Webb, Son-in-law, Christopher James Webb, and Granddaughter, Elaina Ruth Webb.
Duce was born and raised around Rochelle, Georgia working on farms. In his youth is where he found his love for hunting, fishing and family togetherness. Upon high school graduation Duce served in the Army for 3 years followed by the National Guard. He went on to Thomas Area Technical School to earn a degree in Electronic Technology which brought him and Dale to Tallahassee where they would make their home.
He was always focused on family and in Tallahassee he found a new family at Comcast Cablevision where he worked for 32 years and formed many treasured friendships. Duce’s work ethic and his outgoing personality made him a popular friend and mentor with his peers.
Duce loved to travel, meet new people, and never met a stranger anywhere he went. On the weekends you could often find him hunting, fishing, at an FSU baseball game, or anywhere outside enjoying nature. In recent years his favorite hobby was spoiling his granddaughter Elaina with ice cream, trips to the beach, roller coaster rides, and any other trouble they could find.
Please join us Sunday March 19, 2023 for a memorial service at 2pm followed by refreshments at Culley’s. A short viewing will also be held for the half hour preceding the service. A graveside service will be held Monday March 20, 2023 at Oak Hill Cemetery in Quitman, Georgia.
