

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Foley Lewis, age 93 of Tallahassee, FL, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025 with her family at her side. Betty was a devoted wife of 58 years to her husband, William R. “Bill” Lewis, Jr. and mother of four: Lynn (& Bill) James of Tallahassee, FL; Nancy (& Kerry) Fabor of Gibsonville, NC; Barbara (& Len) Bradley of Oak Island, NC; and Robert W. (& Tammy) Lewis of Houston, TX. She is the grandmother of 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Betty was born on March 8, 1932, to James Joseph Foley, Jr. & Anna Rita Foley. She grew up in White Plains, NY and graduated from Cortland State Teachers College in NY. Betty and Bill were married May 8, 1954.
Betty was a loving mother to her four children and a devoted wife. As her children grew, she returned to teaching and was a favorite kindergarten teacher at Sterling Elementary School in Hollywood, FL. Her husband’s career in the travel industry enabled Betty and Bill to pursue their passion for travel, exploring new places and experiencing other cultures.
After moving to Lawrenceville, GA, Betty became an avid quilter and was a member of the Stone Mountain Quilters Guild. Betty and Bill retired to the Greens of Killearn in Tallahassee, FL in 2004. She stayed active quilting, playing Mahjong and bridge. Betty was well known for her homemade apple pies. Betty was an avid reader, enjoyed history and politics. In 2024, she moved to Red Hills Village where she met new friends. Betty will be remembered by all as a loving wife, a devoted mother and a great friend to many.
As a devout Catholic, there will be a memorial mass with a reception to follow at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Tallahassee, FL at a later date.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Big Bend Hospice of Tallahassee, FL. Betty’s ashes will be interned alongside Bill’s at the Dale Cemetery in Ossining, NY.
The Lewis family wish to thank the nurses and staff of TMH Mustian Center – 5th floor ICU and TMH Big Bend Hospice unit for their wonderful care and compassion.
