

George Milford Byrd, 82, of Sopchoppy, Fl., passed away at Brookdale Assisted Living in Tallahassee on March 3, 2016. He was born in Quincy, Fl. to George Miller Byrd and Linnie Burke Byrd on June 16, 1933. George retired from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife service. He also instructed classes at the Pat Thomas Law Enforcement Academy and in Glenco, Ga. as well. His work was his hobby. George was a member of the Sopchoppy Southern Baptist Church and the Sopchoppy Masonic Lodge.
George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Verlie Byrd; one son, George Michael Byrd (Vivian) of Crawfordville; three daughters, Pamela Byrd of Sopchoppy, Cindy (Victor) Pandolfi of Crawfordville, and Rhonda Kay Byrd of Sopchoppy; six grandchildren, Bronson (Lauren), Jay, and Michael Sweatt, Hillary Deal (Ahron), Tori Deal (Chris) and Brandi (Josh) Hignight; six great-grandchildren, Jaxon and Dean Sweatt, Bronson and Verlie Page Sweatt, Isabelle Miller, and Ben Hignight; and two sisters, Betty Neel of Grand Ridge and Lucy Buttress of Oklahoma. Funeral services will be at 11:00 am on Tuesday, March 8, 2016 at Sopchoppy Southern Baptist Church with interment following at West Sopchoppy Cemetery.
