Jacqueline Yvonne Fountain Woods Dykes passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on Sunday, June 16, 2024. She was 93 years of age. She was born on August 25, 1930 at her family’s home in Madison, Florida, to Jack and Jewell Fountain.
To all who knew her, she was simply “Nana,” and she was the finest example of the name. During her lifetime she worked as a secretary, bookkeeper, furniture store owner, fabric store manager, restaurant manager, and salesclerk. Even while working outside the home, she poured her heart and soul into caring for her family. She was a devoted Christian woman and served her church and community in many ways.
Jacquie began each day with spiritual devotional readings and taking on the challenge of a crossword puzzle. One of her greatest joys was cooking at the Tri-State Christian Camp in DeFuniak Springs for a week each summer for 15 years. Jacquie and her husband, Nixon, would prepare 3 meals per day for approximately 75 campers and staff, using only the freshest ingredients, often from their own gardens! She always had a way of making each camper feel special.
She was the true embodiment of goodness. Anyone who knew her knew that she was the most loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She shared this same love with her friends and extended family.
There are no words to describe how much Nana is loved by her family. She loved spending time in the kitchen creating delicious meals for her family. She would sometimes make up to 30 dishes to make sure that everyone had their favorites! Nana took an active role in the lives of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She taught them how to cook, sew, bake, decorate cakes, and shared her quirky life hacks she learned over the years. She loved spending time with them whether it was playing games, having sleepovers, picking them up from school, attending their sporting events, or taking them for ice cream treats!
Jacquie had an amazing sense of humor, even up until her last few days on this earth. She made her whole family laugh with her razor-sharp wit and all her silly sayings. She was kind, generous, and compassionate. She will be desperately missed by all those that she left behind. She was one of a kind and we are truly blessed to have had her as our Mom and Nana.
Jacquie is survived by her children Patricia Guy (Ed), Lloyd Woods (Diana) and Nikki Garrett (Ryan); 9 grandchildren: Emily Shafer (Dan), Joey Grubbs (Carolyn), Lloyd Woods II, Kitt Woods (Shanna), Ben Woods, Kyler McGraw (Audrey), Layne Garrett, Lindsay Garrett, and Emily Owens (Rob); and 14 great-grandchildren: Jack Shafer, Drew Shafer, Erin Grubbs, Taylor Grubbs, Sammy Grubbs, P.J. Grubbs, Tucker Woods, Ally Woods, Nyah Woods, Bodhi Woods, Everett Woods, Landon Woods, Danielle Owens, and Darren Owens; and special and very dear friends who were like family: Jackie Stuckey, Joyce and David Kuralt, Tiffany and Antar Williams and their children Summer and Dakota Williams, Tim Yoho, and Les Brown and his sons, Lando, Logan, Milo, and Nolan Brown.
Jacquie was predeceased in death by her sons, Richard Woods and Doyle Alver (Al) Woods; parents, Jack and Jewell Fountain; sister, Virginia Fountain; brother, Tommy Fountain (Betty); and husbands, Doyle Woods and Nixon Dykes.
