
James Edgerton McCord passed away on Sunday, November 15, 2015 at Advent Christian Village, Dowling Park Florida. A memorial service will be held for him at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Calvary Orthodox Presbyterian Church 814 N. Gadsden Street, Tallahassee, FL 32303. He was predeceased by his wife, Marquita Lance McCord; his brother, Guyte Pierce McCord, Jr.; and his sister, Jean McCord Boone.
Jim was born in Tallahassee, FL on October 4, 1924, the second son of the late Guyte Pierce McCord, Sr. and the late Jean Patterson McCord. As a senior at Leon High School during World War II he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps where he served in India in support of the China Burma Theater 1944-45. He returned home to Tallahassee and in 1947 married his bride Marquita Lance. They raised three children, Mark Lance McCord, Sr. (Dawn), David Edgerton McCord (Michael Lisa) and Rebecca McCord Duncan (James). Jim built a career in the Architectural Hardware Industry which took him to central Florida, Texas, Tennessee, and eventually back to Tallahassee. In 2001 he and Marquita retired to their mountain home in Highlands, NC. In 2006 they relocated to the Advent Christian Village in Dowling Park, FL.
As a lifelong Presbyterian Jim has served as Deacon, Elder, adult Sunday school teacher and choir member. His family life was always close to the church. He was at peace with his Savior and was ready to go home.
