

James William Rogers (“Buck”) 93, a Retired Navy Officer & a Lawyer for the Florida Attorney General’s office, of Tallahassee, Florida, passed away at the age of 93 at Tallahassee, Florida peacefully in the presence of loved ones.
James was born in Perry Florida to Hazel Veronica Florie on September 22nd, 1932.
He served in the United States Navy for 28 years. He entered the Navy shortly after the end of World War II. His duty stations included Korea, Kaiserslautern Germany, Sidi Yahia Morocco, Hakata Japan, Vietnam aboard the USS Oxford, London England, Adak Alaska, Portsmouth Rhode Island, Washington D. C., National Security Agency Ft. Meade Maryland (twice) & NTTC Corry Field Pensacola Florida. He met the love of his life while in the Navy Ruth Namoi Wade (also a Navy Servicemember). Awards Navy Commendation Medal; Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Unit Citation; Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign 3 Stars; Republic of Vietnam Meritorious Unit Citation; Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Navy Occupation Service Medal w/Europe Clasp; United Nations Service Medal; National Defense Service Medal; Korean Service Medal; Good Conduct Medal (3 Awards).
After his retirement from the US Navy he supported a number of causes including the Pacific War Museum Fredericksburg Texas and National WWII Museum New Orleans Louisiana.
James was a member of the MENSA, the world’s largest, oldest and most famous IQ society. He was also a proud member of the Capital City Republicans of Tallahassee. His hobbies included reading, listening to music & walking.
James attended Florida State University, graduating from their Law School in 1981. James & Ruth were lifelong Nole fans and attended a number of sporting events over the years. Previously he graduated from the University of West Florida with a Masters in Political Science as a Master in Business Administration.
James was preceded in death by wife Ruth Namoi Rogers Dec 7th 2019. They were married for 64 years.
James is survived by his son Theodore Rogers and his daughter Eleanor Rogers. His son Ted and his wife Elicia Rogers blessed James & Ruth with 5 Grandsons; Brett, Kyle, Justin, Ryan & Shane. Brett & his wife Carissa blessed James & Ruth with James & Ruth with 4 Great Grandchildren Riley, Rainey, Meadow & Deacon. Kyle & his wife Kristen have blessed James & Ruth with one Great Grandchild Mena. Justin blessed James & Ruth with one Great Grandchild Emma. Shane and his wife Robin are expecting their first child in February of 2026. James & Ruth loved their Grandchildren & Great Grandchildren and were active in their lives. All of his family will miss him dearly.
Visitation will be at 5-7 PM on Monday November 3rd 2025, at Culley’s MeadowWood Funeral Home 1737 Riggins Road - Tallahassee, Florida 32308.
Funeral Services will be at 1000 AM on Tuesday November 4th 2025, at Tallahassee National Cemetery.
