

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Professor Streem received a scholarship to the Juilliard School, which he attended from 1952 to 1959, with an interruption for military service in the US Army. Upon his graduation, he joined the faculty of the Cleveland Music School Settlement, where he taught for nine years until 1968 when The Florida State University invited him to join their piano faculty. He taught there for 38 years.
During his career, he performed throughout the US, appearing as a recitalist and soloist with symphony orchestras in Boston, New York, Detroit, Cleveland, and Miami, and as a collaborative pianist with pianist Edward Kilenyi, violinist Paul Zukofsky, and Metropolitan Opera tenor Enrico di Giuseppe.
His parents, Irving and Geraldine Streem, wife Prudy, brother Ronald, and sister Bootsie all predeceased him. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
Contributions on his behalf may be made to the James and Prudy Streem Endowed Scholarship at the Juilliard School or the James and Prudy Streem Endowed Scholarship at The Florida State University College of Music.
Private funeral services will be held at Roselawn Cemetery.
