Janet Schreiner Dobbins passed away peacefully on February 7, 2025, in Tallahassee at Dozier Hospice House after a long battle with various health issues, including Alzheimer’s. Born on April 1, 1948, in Lynbrook, New York she was the oldest of eight children. Janet grew up in Melbourne, Florida, and attended the University of Florida, where she earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees. She dedicated her career to public service as a Bureau Chief with the State of Florida’s Division of Disability Determination.
Janet had a deep appreciation for nature and was a devoted Master Gardener, often volunteering at Maclay Gardens. She was a gourmet cook, an avid reader, and enjoyed traveling with her husband, Cleve Dobbins. She cherished quiet moments with her beloved rescue standard poodles, Coco and Levi, and found comfort in her nightly phone calls with her sisters. Some of her happiest times were spent strolling through Esposito Garden Center, discovering new plants to nurture. She also had a sharp wit and enjoyed a good, lively debate with her siblings or her son Michael.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Kathleen Schreiner, and her sister, Tracy Schreiner Garcia.
She is survived by her loving husband of 25 years, Cleveland Dobbins; her sons, Michael Robinson and his wife, Garrett, of Tallahassee, along with their children, Britton, Kenley, and Raynes; and Casey Robinson of Apopka. She is also survived by her six siblings: Michael Schreiner, Linda Schreiner, Susan Joyce, Kathleen Scarbrough, Carolyn Carr, and David Schreiner, as well as several in-laws, nieces, and nephews.
With heartfelt gratitude, the family thanks Wanda Duhart-Harvey, Joy Bivens, and the dedicated staff at Villas at Killearn Lakes and Dozier Hospice House for their unwavering care and support throughout the past year and beyond.
The family will gather in a small, private celebration to honor the beautiful life she lived. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Janet’s memory to Big Bend Hospice Foundation, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd, Tallahassee, FL 32308.
