She worked in Atlanta with Pan AM airlines and sold real estate. Jan eventually moved to Tallahassee to continue her real estate career with Noblin Realty and eventually became a broker, establishing her own company, Jan Soto Realty. Throughout her career she closed many real estate deals from homes to hotels. On several occasions she was recognized as a top real estate seller. Jan’s claim to fame was leasing the Barnett Bank building back in 1968 in which she made full-page coverage in the Tallahassee Democrat with a headline that read “Jan Schultz- Soto Works in a Man’s World”.
In Tallahassee she met the love of her life – Dr. Bernard Soto and after their marriage she inherited seven kids. Jan never had any kids of her own, but she experienced life at every angle with her stepchildren. She was a dedicated, caring and loving stepmother and beloved grandmother. She was blessed with one grandchild, Allen, who was the apple of her eye. Jan loved people and never met a stranger. She always greeted everyone with a big, beautiful smile and “How are You Honey”. Jan often hosted parties and one fund raiser annually on the day of Kentucky Derby, complete with Kentucky Burgoo, Mint Juleps and betting booths, and of course the attire consisting of big hats and seersucker suits.
Jan was a member of the Tallahassee Board of Realtors, Florida Economics Club, Governors Club, Springtime Tallahassee, Chamber of Commerce. Jan contributed to many organizations in Tallahassee for the greater good of the community.
