Jean R. Signs

Jean Ilene Signs passed away peacefully in her sleep Friday December 4, 2015 at the age of 95. She is survived by her 2 sons, Fred (Jennifer) of Biloxi Mississippi and Michael (Lora) of Tallahassee Florida along with 3 grandchildren, Shelley, Travis and Weston.

Jean was born February 25, 1920 in Des Moines Iowa into a family that included 11 siblings. Growing up in the Great Depression she learned at an early age about hard work, sharing and especially the value of a dollar, traits she carried throughout her life. She eloped and married Frederick Karl Signs on December 30, 1938 and remained together until his death on March 18, 1995. As a young Air Force couple they lived in numerous locations in the United States and abroad serving in Germany, Japan, Thailand, The Philippines, Morocco and Norway before settling down in Tallahassee in 1966 to raise their children. Jean was involved in numerous social and civic organisations and was an avid bridge and tennis player into her early 90's. She was very engaged in the work of her church, Tallahassee Heights United Methodist, serving in many capacities.

Her children will remember her as a loving and supportive mother, exhibiting great patience while raising 2 hardheaded boys. She was our cheerleader and chauffeur, teacher and mentor, always backing us in football, baseball, basketball, swimming and band. But most of all, she was our rock and model, showing us the love of Christ through her life. She will be missed.
