He was born, July 9, 1942, in Colquitt County, Georgia to Allen and Hazel Hunt and resided in the South Georgia/North Florida area for most of his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, who both passed early in their lives, and two sisters Betty Louise Hunt and Mildred Elaine Hunt-Childers.
Jimmie’s formative years were spent in the care of his aunt Juanita Holton-Hunt (aunt Nita) and uncle James David Hunt (uncle David) whom he loved dearly.
He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and was a Purple Heart Medal recipient. Though his war wounds would last his lifetime, it did not slow Jimmie down. He loved his country, loved his time in the service, loved his lifelong veteran friends, and really loved to tell stories of his experiences to anyone who would listen. He was very passionate about his interests and truly enjoyed life.
After the war, Jimmie worked for Municipal Code, in Tallahassee, Fl. until retirement, but stayed active servicing computers and cash register systems. He never met a stranger and was quick to help anyone in need. He loved his dog Priss (deceased) and his recently adopted cats Little Bit and Indie.
Jimmie Hunt is survived by his brother Thomas Allen Hunt, daughter Tracy Pitt, sons Allen and Russell Hunt, and five grandchildren Summer Pitt, Michael Bailey, Ian Hunt, Ava Hunt and Brody Hunt.
A veteran burial service will be performed at the Tallahassee National Cemetery and a Celebration of Life will be held in South Georgia. Dates and times will be posted once determined.
The family wishes to express their appreciation for the loving care he received from the staff of Big Bend Hospice in his final days.
