

Jack was born on October 21, 1934 in Washington, Pennsylvania. He is survived by his wife, Ann Mowell; his daughter, Sarah Anne Mowell; granddaughter, Sondra Mowell Parsons (Ryan); great grandsons, Jack, Bo and Burke Parsons; and his beloved Labrador, Tracker. He was preceded in death by his late wife, Sara Sandra Mowell and his son, John Byard Mowell, Jr.
Forty years ago, Jack founded Mowell Financial Group, a regional asset management company in Tallahassee, where he remained Chairman until his death. He most recently served as Executive Chairman of Entegrion, Inc. (Durham, NC), and as a board member of Nano Vapor, Inc. (Houston, TX). He previously served as Executive Director and Chairman of the Board of EMS Technologies (Atlanta, GA), Chairman and CEO of Reflectone, Inc. (Tampa, FL), Chairman of the Board of Aspen Avionics (Albuquerque, NM) and Chairman of the Board of Sensurion, Inc. (Minneapolis, MN).
In addition, under appointment by the Governor of Florida, Jack served as Chairman of the Florida State Board of Administration, the State’s $100+ billion retirement fund, and served in an advisory role for the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank. He was the founder and Chairman Emeritus of the Economic Club of Florida, a founder of the Florida Governor’s Club and was appointed Director of the Florida Economic Development Counsel. He was awarded a Bachelor of Science in Economics from the University of Pennsylvania and was a graduate of its Wharton School of Commerce and Finance. He was appointed Trustee of Rocky Mountain College in Billings, Montana, where he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate Degree in Aviation. He was a proud veteran and patriot, who served honorably in the U.S. Military as a Naval Aviation Officer involved in Air/Anti-Submarine Warfare operations.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Jack was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who enjoyed reading, cooking, fly-fishing, and traveling - especially to Fishtail, Montana. There he created a cherished sanctuary, Sacred Raven Ranch, where he spent many summers with friends and family. His bright smile, quick wit and guiding wisdom will be deeply missed by all who loved him.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Tallahassee on Monday, June 28 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be sent to Mayo Clinic Jacksonville in memory of John B. Mowell, Sr. for the purpose of cancer research (https://philanthropy.mayoclinic.org/donatemc).
