

Brazilian born and former Tallahassee resident, Capt. José Henrique de Lima Volpini, “Henrique” 87 died August 18, 2013, at St. Augustine Plantation Assisted Living in Tallahassee, Florida. Mr. Volpini was born Dec. 27, 1925, in São Paulo, Brazil to Henrique Volpini and Candida de Lima Volpini. He married Maria de Fátima Maranhão Volpini in 1972 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. He served in the Brazilian Airforce as 2nd Lieutenant Aviator in the 1940s. After his discharge, he was employed by VARIG Airlines as a pilot/Captain for 35 years, retiring in 1988. He had lived in Rio de Janeiro over 50 years, before moving to Alexandria, VA., in 2000. He moved to Tallahassee with his wife Fatima in 2011. He was an avid beach volleyball player and world traveler.
Mr. Volpini was a member of the Brazilian Ministério da Aeronautica and AERUS Retirees Association in Brazil. He was a member of the Baha’í Faith.
His family wrote: “Henrique’s devotion to his faith, wife and family and his integrity and bravery were an inspiration to all who came in touch with him.”
He is survived by his wife Maria de Fátima Volpini, stepdaughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter Flavia Ramos-Mattoussi, Hedi and Yasmine Vivian Mattoussi of Tallahassee; son, daughter, and grandson Francisco, Juliana and Mateos Volpini of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Mr. Volpini was preceded in death by his brother Walter, and his two sisters Cida and Meire.
