

Joseph Michael Griffin, age 67, went to be with His Lord on Saturday, September 16, 2017, while surrounded by his family at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital in Tallahassee, Florida. He was born on November 22, 1949 in Lake City, Florida to M. Herschel and Vera Polk Griffin. “Mike” married his bride of 49 years, Pamela Davidson Griffin, in Bluefield, West Virginia, on July 21, 1968. They have two children, Brandon Griffin (Beth) and Shelly Griffin Shiver (Doug), and 7 grandchildren, Hunter Shiver, Calvin Griffin, Rebekah Griffin, Carey Griffin, Brooke Shiver, Kate Griffin and Chase Shiver. Mike is also survived by 3 brothers and one sister, John Griffin (Diana), Craig Griffin (Joyce), Don Griffin (Marsha) and Gloria Ussery (Adrian), sister-in-law Ellen Ontko, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother-in-law Thomas Davidson, and sister-in-law Diana Patton Griffin.
Mike served in the Army in the 3rd US Infantry Regiment (“The Old Guard”) in Fort Myer, Virginia. He was a 1977 graduate of Florida State University with a B.S. degree in Accounting and Finance and worked as an accountant for the State of Florida for 20 years. He was a founding member of Chapel Hill Baptist Church and attended and served there for 12 years. All who knew him would agree that the most important thing to Mike was his relationship with Jesus Christ, and second to that was his family. He was an adoring and devoted husband, faithful father, and dearly loved grandfather, brother, uncle, and cousin. He was known as a selfless, cheerful, humble man who loved to serve and minister to others.
The funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Chapel Hill Baptist Church, 3413 Old Bainbridge Road, Tallahassee, FL 32303. The family will greet friends at church on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Chapel Hill Baptist Church.
